Spring-time brings the Final Four

United States 2005

Recently the US saw the official start of Spring. While I doubt nature sticks rigidly to this sort of ruling, St Louis somehow feels more, well, spring-like. The trees have all started to bud, the sun is out, the skies are blue, and it’s very hot. All the water fountains in the city parks are running again after Winter, and the kiddies are out in force.

There is an excitement rushing around downtown St Louis too. This weekend the nation’s eyes will be turned on us to watch the NCAA Final Four. The final four college basketball teams left in this year’s championship, Illinois, Louisville, North Carolina, and Michigan State, are here to see who’s the best. The Final Four is one of the biggest sporting events in the US, apparently out-selling everything but baseball’s World Series — tickets are supposedly going for $5,000! This weekend, Downtown will be packed.

Update

Just moments after I wrote this entry it became so humid that big drops of rain started falling. I ran to the library to get a biography of Thomas Jefferson wearing sunglasses and came back wet!
